Bluebird Beach

BEST BEACH FOR: Avid swimmers and kids who long for room to run.

Just down the hill from Bluebird Canyon, not even a half-mile from Laguna Beach’s beloved Bluebird Park, sits a swath of sand beloved by bodysurfers and sun seekers. This wide stretch of beach – which runs in front of Surf & Sand Resort – has plenty of room for laying out, picnicking, and playing along the waterline. In this stretch of town (south of the bustling center but north of “SoLag” (or South Laguna), you won’t find a better place for chasing down a Frisbee or throwing the football.

At the south end of the beach, a series of rock outcroppings create breaks that are beloved by body boarders (and sometimes surfers, ask the lifeguards if it’s a “blackball” day). Meanwhile, swimming is popular in the sandy-bottomed section right in front of the resort. Access is easiest in the summers, with a free trolley stop right at Bluebird Canyon Drive. Otherwise, the resort offers valet parking, and there is metered parking available along PCH.

If you’re staying at Surf & Sand Resort, or just want a little elbow room without going too far from downtown, this beach is a score.
