Outdoor Activities & Recreational Things To Do

With a city name like ours, the first thing that typically comes to mind is our pristine beaches and coves (we have more than 30 of them, by the way).

But, that being said, Laguna Beach isn’t just about the beach as we have a diverse range of activities that can be found both on the sea and on land.

With 20,000 acres of wilderness waiting to be explored through hiking, biking or even docent-led tours, we have lots of sports/adventure options that are located off the beach. In addition to our world-class beaches and coves, Laguna Beach also boasts an abundance of parks, each offering a unique characteristic-some house beautiful pieces of public art, some with equipment designed specifically to keep children entertained, some with seating that welcomes the public for outdoor concerts or a secluded picnic, and some that offer breathtaking views to enjoy while you meditate on your yoga mat.

Interested in viewing sea creatures in their natural habitats? Then our tide pools are a must. Laguna Beach is a marine-protected area, which prohibits motorized boats and fishing along the coastline. This allows the sea life to remain rich and vibrant, making our tide pools world-class. But be sure you look and don't touch in order to preserve the area for years to come. Tide pools are best viewed (and the safest!) during low tide.

Interested in exploring the town from the water? Well, we have a slue of water adventures ready for the taking. Take a surf lesson, rent a stand-up paddle board, or ride tandem in a kayak to view the coastline from the water. Interested in skimboarding? Try it, as this water sport started in Laguna Beach and dates back to the late 1920s when Laguna Beach lifeguards used to skimboard on pieces of wood.

Want to go deeper and encounter underwater adventures? Laguna Beach offers great snorkeling and diving opportunities view the abundant kelp beds, Garibaldi and other sea life that live below the ocean's surface.
