Family Friendly Things To Do In Laguna Beach

There’s nothing like taking your family to the beach!

Our seaside town of Laguna Beach is committed to preserving local ecology, so it’s a great way for your kids to find plenty of activities where they can learn about the environment and gain an appreciation for nature, all while having fun!

Family Friendly Beaches

Our famed beaches are family friendly and feature wide stretches of sand, which make the perfect environment for sandcastle building. Diver’s Cove, adjacent to Picnic Beach, provides the perfect setting for the little ones to splash and wade in shallow waters. Older kids craving a bit more of exhilaration can ride the waves on a boogie board, which are always available for rent near Main Beach. To really learn about the environment of Laguna explore our tide pools

Fascinating creatures inhabit the shallow saltwater pools, which are revealed during low tide. Main Beach and Treasure Island are two of the most popular places to get a look up close and personal with the marine life. Both beaches often have docents from the Laguna Ocean Foundation available to answer questions and guide your family in exploring the tide pools.

Observing Wildlife

Another idea for your family adventure can include embarking on a whale and dolphin watching excursion, just south of Laguna Beach in Dana Point is Dana Wharf Whale Watching or north, in Newport Beach with Newport Landing Whale Watching. There are few things in life that are quite as magnificent as getting up close and personal with these ocean-going mammals. Gray whale migration reaches its peak from November through April and giant blue whales and finback whales from May through Mid October.

To find out more about marine mammals, visit the Pacific Marine Mammal Center to observe rescued sea lions and seals or to view these pinnipeds in their natural habitat, book a guided kayak eco tour.

If your family prefers to stay on land, the Nix Nature Center, located in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, features an easy trail that loops around the visitors center as well as access to other walking paths suitable for children. Weekends at the center feature hands-on activities for families.
