  • Coastal Fire, 5-12-22 Update

    No Current Threat to Laguna Beach

    There is currently no immediate fire threat to the City of Laguna Beach from the Coastal Fire burning in Laguna Niguel. Fire crews will monitor and put out hot spots in Aliso Woods Canyon through the day and the City remains ready to respond if the fire situation changes. 

    The Coastal Fire is still active and currently estimated at approximately 195 acres in size. The City’s Helipod water refilling station will continue to be used throughout the day for aerial firefighting efforts and the Fire Road remains closed to the public. Please do not attempt to access the Fire Road area.

    The County of Orange Public Information Hotline has been staffed and is ready to accept calls of inquiry in regard to the Coastal Fire. The Public Information Hotline phone number is (714) 628-7085.

    Update 3:30pm Evacuation orders lifted

    Update 12:30pm:  PCH is now open in both directions 

    Update 9:30am: Road closures:

    PCH is closed in both directions, with the northbound side closed at Broadway and southbound closed at El Morro Bay. 
    Evacuees were being told to head south on PCH to leave the area.

    LAGUNA BEACH, CA – The Laguna Beach Police Department has issued an IMMEDIATE EVACUATION ORDER for Irvine Cove and Emerald Bay (both North AND South Emerald Bay), and an EVACUATION WARNING has been issued for all of North Laguna (all residents North of Broadway) in Laguna Beach due to a nearby brush fire. Homes are currently threatened with the possibility of more structures threatened if the fire spreads. Evacuees should go SOUTH on Coast Highway to evacuate the area.

    Northbound Coast Highway is closed at Broadway.  Southbound is closed at El Morro Bay. 

    All Laguna Beach School District schools are CLOSED today.

    The care and reception center is open at the Laguna Beach Community and Susi Q Center and at the Los Olivos Community Center in Irvine, at 101 Alonso, Irvine, CA 92618.

    An IMMEDIATE EVACUATION ORDER means there is an imminent threat to life or property.  People and their pets in the Immediate Evacuation Order area should evacuate NOW, without delay.
