Moss Cove

BEST BEACH FOR: Romantic-types, who want to watch the sunset without a soul around.

Moss Cove is the last public beach at the southern end of the downtown area, before Victoria Street marks the beginning of “SoLag” (or South Laguna). It’s tiny, a little tricky to find, and – because of these features – virtually deserted day and night. Seriously, if you want a beach all to yourself, even in the peak of summer, this is one of the best bets in town.

Bordered by craggy rocks, there isn’t much to Moss Cove – other than beautiful scenery above and below the water, that is. Divers and snorkelers adore this spot for its kelp beds and abundant sea life. Dog owners utilize it as a place where their pups can frolic on-leash without bothering anyone. And young lovers appreciate the privacy.

Poke around the abundant tide pools, explore the small cave at the north end of the cove, or take a swim in the (typically) calm waters. Parking is easy enough on the quiet, shady Moss Street. Just note: The beach here can often disappear completely when the tide is high, so be sure to plan your trip to Moss Cove at or around low tide.

June 15 – September 10, dogs are allowed BEFORE 9:00am and AFTER 6:00pm
September 11 – June 14, dogs are allowed during regular beach hours
Dogs must be on a leash that’s 6’ or shorter, at all times
