If you’ve lived in Laguna Beach long enough, you’re sure to have a Totuava story. This little-known beach is the least accessible in town, but most locals have visited at least a few times. It’s a matter of bragging rights in a city where so many of the beaches are easily accessible.
Unless you own a multi-million-dollar mansion on the hills, the best way to get to this isolated South Laguna gem is via Thousand Steps Beach. When the tide is low, you can walk or wade around the rock cliffs that jut into the water. If you do, you’ll have Totuava all to yourself – or share it with a few extremely wealthy residents, at the very least.
This beach doesn’t have a public lifeguard on duty, so swim at your own risk. It’s also not an easy place to lug chairs or a cooler. Still, if you’re savvy about the tides and keen on a piece of paradise all to yourself, this is your dream location.
