Momentum

Richard MacDonald created the monumental sculpture, Momentum, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Open golf tournament, in 2000. The 15 foot tall bronze stands today on the Peter Hay course at Pebble Beach, where the iconic view of the Pacific is framed by the circular design of the sculpture- encompassing the energy of the swing, the beauty of the location, and the historic importance of the event into one dynamic composition. It is inscribed with the first 100 winners of the U.S. Open, culminating with the victory of Tiger Woods. Imaginatively conceived, the monumental bronze sculpture depicts the past and future of the sport and the precision it takes to be a champion. Upon its completion, Richard MacDonald was awarded Artist of the Year by the National Sports Academy, and the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Art Council in Monterey, California.
