BEST BEACH FOR: Anyone dragging a cooler or in a wheelchair – for whom the ramp is a big help.
Christmas Cove is the northernmost beach running below Laguna’s world-renowned resort, Montage Laguna Beach. Though it’s no trouble at all to get to – with parking often available along PCH and a long ramp offering wheelchair access – this beach remains far less crowded than Goff Cove, just steps to the south, or Treasure Island, right below the Montage.
Without bluffs to protect it from the wind, this beach is usually chillier than its neighboring beaches around sunset. But the chance to really spread out on the sand is a great equalizer. And of course, like the string of beaches and coves in this area, the grassy park located on the Montage grounds, Treasure Island, is a dreamy place to spend time if you need a break from the sand.
Though rip tides can sometimes develop, this is an overall good swimming beach (always be aware of conditions). You can also enjoy tide pools at the base of Goff Island (the south end of Christmas Cove), during low tide.
