BEST BEACH FOR: Autumn surfers and families who want to be near the surf breaks.
Oak Street is one of Laguna’s all-time underrated beaches. When the swell comes in from the north, it’s one of the best, most low-key surf breaks in town. It’s also one step further away from Main Beach than its more popular neighbor, Thalia Street – making it a tad less crowded. And the approach is one of the easiest too, with new stairs and a viewing deck added in 2017.
With waves that break both on the sand and further out, Oak Street Beach is popular with skim boarders, surfers, and swimmers alike. During the summers, the beach is reserved for swimming during peak hours. At night or in the early mornings (plus the off-season), it’s open to all. For a few weeks in the late fall, as the sands begin to shift, the north-south combo swells hit this break perfectly.
If you’re looking for a beach to bring the family, where parking is relatively uncomplicated (typically found on the opposite side of PCH), the waves are predictable, and there’s plenty of sand for a game of Frisbee, this is your jam. Be careful when swimming though, the reef is a rock shelf and can be dangerous if you’re not in control.
