BEST BEACH FOR: Folks looking for a little quiet with superb scenery.
Similar to Agate Street, its neighbor to the north, Pearl Street Beach is a relatively isolated stretch of sand in the newly named Pearl Street District. What makes this beach stand out is the sandstone arch at its southern end – perfect for would-be explorers and Instagram influencers alike. The rocks south of the arch, between Pearl Street and Woods Cove, are also home to the only blowhole in Orange County – a beloved, lifeguard-approved adventure, for anyone brave enough to give it a go.
When the tide is right, the water in the blowhole sucks into an underwater swim-through. Competent swimmers can dive into the bubbling gap and surface in the open ocean. For those who are skittish, the tide pools at this outcropping, called Cactus Point, teem with marine life.
The beach itself is low-key. It’s easily reached, though the stairs aren’t as clearly marked as other spots, and is known for being quiet. It’s mostly frequented by residents living nearby and anyone who’s heard about the scenic arch or the blowhole (which is also accessible via Woods Cove).
